Matthews Nurseries Ltd of Wanganui have been supplying top quality roses to the gardeners of N.Z. for over 60 years. We have a large range of roses, from tried and true favourites such as Iceberg, Dublin Bay and Aotearoa NZ to newer varieties such as Diamonds Forever, Midnight Blue, Lasting Love and Burgundy Iceburg to name just a few. We are agents for many of the top world rose breeders which enables us to offer you top award winning roses from around the world and we have our own hybridising programme as well.

We are agents for many of the world's recognised rose breeders and we hybridise as well. We have seedling trial areas, mother virus free stock beds for Matthews virus free certification programme and three quarantine beds in addition to the main crop. The nursery was established by Tom Matthews in 1947, who grew 15,000 bush; 3,000 Standards; Weepers and a small range of trees and shrubs. Bob and Cath Matthews took the business over in 1978. Now 30 years on, we are one of the largest rose growers in New Zealand growing approximately 120,000 roses and continue to grow crab apples Tom Matthews has bred. Roses offer romance, fragrance, colour, indoor cut flowers and outdoor floral display. There is a rose for every garden situation, and every garden has a place for a rose.
